Nine months into her Marketing and Admin Apprenticeship, Ellie looks back on the highlights since her last update.
Apprenticeship at 3D Scanning Company
I can’t quite believe how quickly the last 9 months of my Apprenticeship have gone.
Since my last Apprentice update, our 3D scanning company has been involved in a technical sponsorship with Sunbury-on-Thames based race car company, West Surrey Racing (WSR). The organisation was set up in 1981 and originally competed in the British Formula 3 Championships. Since moving into the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), WSR has achieved an extraordinary level of success, with five outright championship titles, nine independents’ crowns and 74 race victories.
Back in October, I was lucky enough to accompany Metrologist, Ben, along to the WSR site to see the process of 3D scanning being carried out on their BMW engine. This was to help me further understand the services we offer, as well as giving me the opportunity to photograph and video the whole 3D scanning process. Our technical support gave the team at WSR the highly accurate data they needed to make adjustments to the engine and chassis before the BTCC season started.
We were invited to BTCC’s ‘Media Day’ at Donington Park race circuit in March, which all drivers attended. Here, the finalised teams and accompanying drivers were announced, and drivers’ cars were revealed. It was a really exciting event as it was my first time at a race track, and it was interesting to see behind the scenes of WSR’s garage.
West Surrey Racing’s team consists of Rob Collard, Colin Turkington and Andrew Jordan, all of whom are doing extremely well in the BTCC, currently holding positions of 1st, 2nd and 7th!
As part of the sponsorship, I have been increasing my marketing knowledge and experience through producing news articles about race days for our website, creating case studies on our technical projects that we carried out for WSR and regularly tweeting. In preparation for the start of the BTCC season, I created branded lanyards and umbrellas to promote our 3D scanning business – these have come in handy during rainy race days!
Alongside marketing our technical sponsorship with WSR, I have also been involved with preparation for shows and exhibitions we have attended, specifically Develop3D Live. For this, I carried out email marketing campaigns and put together promotional materials.
As well as the work at Physical Digital®, I have been completing my Level 3 Diploma in Digital Marketing. I have passed all my workplace assignments well ahead of my deadline, with my Digital Marketing Assessor, Louis, praising my work, commenting upon my completion “It has been a pleasure. You have been great and will go far in Digital Marketing, congratulations.”
With just over 3 months to go until my apprenticeship ends, I will continue to take every opportunity to develop my marketing skills and aim to complete my assignments before the end of my twelve months at Physical Digital.
