Aiming high at Rockingham

Continued support for West Surrey Racing

3D scanning company Physical Digital® continues to support West Surrey Racing through its technical sponsorship and have every confidence in Team BMW during the next rounds of the BTCC this weekend, as we see them head to Rockingham Motor Speedway in Northamptonshire. Opened by the Queen on 26th May 2001, the circuit boasts a 52,000 capacity within its four grandstands. Built on a British Steel works brown field, the site was initially a blanked oval with the hope of introducing American Oval racing to the UK.  Further circuits were later constructed within the infield, resulting in the unique 1.9-mile layout which is part-oval and part-road, setting itself apart from other circuits visited by the BTCC.

Hopes are high for Colin Turkington to maintain his position at the head of the title. Already a double-winner at Rockingham in 2014 in his BMW 125i, this weekend could prove the most challenging race yet in the Championship. Following his win at Knockhill in round 21, he will now have to carry the maximum 75kg success ballast for the upcoming battle.

Ahead of this weekend’s race, Colin Turkington said: “I come to Rockingham with the heaviest car ballast-wise, and this presents its own challenges. But the BMW is one of the best-handling cars in the BTCC and this should give me a very good chance of scoring big points and maintaining the championship lead.”

Team-mate Rob Collard currently lies fourth in the points table, with one win and seven podiums to his name and is the only driver to have scored points in every one of the 21 races held in 2017.

WSR, who claimed their 250th BTCC podium at Knockhill last time out, are also five-time winners in the series at Rockingham.

Visitors to the Rockingham are in for a real treat this weekend as every ticket gives you access to the impressive grandstand, from which you can see every corner of the track. The atmosphere promises to be electric as WSR returns in their bid to continue their on-going success.
